I was an avid reader before having kids. But since having my son, I just don’t have as much time to read anymore. And I definitely don’t have time to waste on bad books. And I know I’m not the only one. Also, when I started looking for books to read to my son, I realized there were just as many bad books out there for kids as there are for adults. So, I started this book review site to help out other moms like me who are looking for good reads for both themselves and their children.
Welcome to The Mommy Bookshelf!
These are books for the adults in the household. These are of both the Adult and YA categories in all the genres I enjoy. I read widely and in most genres, fiction and non-fiction.
(Save for extreme horror and erotic romance…
they’re just not my thing).
These are books for mommy to read to the little ones.
These are picture books of all genres, fiction and non-fiction.
I rate books on a ten-point scale (Ten being the best thing I’ve ever read and one…well, I hope I never have to read a one) When it comes to the Lower Shelf reviews of children's books, I have split this rating into two sections, a text rating and an illustration rating, again, ten being the best. I elaborate further on the reasoning for the particular rating within each book’s full review.
This rating looks at how easy it is for a busy mom to get through this book. There are some really great books out there that, before having a baby, would have been a pleasure to get lost in for hours, but now are just too dense or difficult to get through in shorter spurts of reading. I elaborate further on the reasoning for the particular rating within each book’s full review.
I am an Amazon Affiliate. When you click on a book link I share, I may receive a small commission from your purchase. This does not cost you anything nor does it affect the price of the book for you.
